Keeping our guard up

Keeping our guard up –

Developers hoping to slip proposals through before AVDC’s new Core Strategy is in place?

Following AVDC’s rejection of the Newton Leys South development proposal and the Salden Chase Consortium being left with little other option (in our view) than to withdraw their proposal, the Newton Leys South developers (O&H Ltd) have put in an appeal.

Our area (Aylesbury Vale), like others around the country, is creating a new Core Strategy.  The previous AVDC Core Strategy was withdrawn when the new government removed the threat of compulsion on local authorities to build massive new urban developments.

People Power

Salden Chase:

We are very pleased to confirm that the developers have decided to withdraw the planning application for this huge development and we now can state that this current threat is now dead! The applicants cannot appeal to this action, as it was themselves who withdrew it.

This is very much a triumph for ‘People Power’ . Two years ago there was little or no interest to stop the proposed development and as such our area was classed as a ‘soft target’ fortunately James Lodge, Chair of Save our Villages had different ideas and formed a strong campaign which soon spread to other villages and gained massive support. Local and National politicians became involved and soon other groups such as Bletchley Park and Tony Mabbott of SC Residents action group joined the campaign. We were strong and gained national attention with TV and Radio and produced many hundreds of objections against the development which were sent to AVDC.  We held together and made the difference ‘People Power in Action’ Continue reading …

Save Our Villages Christmas Newsletter

Since its inception 18 months ago the Save our Villages (SOV) group has committed an enormous effort not only to raise awareness of the threat posed by the Salden Chase development on Newton Longville and surrounding villages but also to mobilise the support and influence of policy makers at local and national level.

The effort has paid off and we feel confident that such development will no longer be a threat in the near future. Nevertheless, SOV group will continue to monitor the Planning front albeit on a ‘background’ basis and will keep villagers informed as necessary.

The Village Plan must now become the focus of Villagers’ attention to ensure that its findings are adopted by AVDC both to create the framework to deliver improvements to the village and also to prevent large-scale and/or inappropriate development in the coming years.

So, for the time being, SOV will reduce its efforts and campaign to just website activity and we shall do what we can to assist the Village Plan.

We thank the Parish Council and all of you for your support during the past year and hope that you will all show interest in shaping the future of Newton Longville by helping the Village Plan Group

Season’s Greetings to you all!
